From pencil scribble to campaign image.
Long before the first light is set up, a good photograph already exists as a few pencil lines. From 2015 to 2018, that is how the images for Sprüngli's seasonal folders and campaigns began, made to show the handcraft of Switzerland's most traditional confiserie.
For every shoot, I sketched each scene: the confectioner's pose, the tools in his hands, the composition and how the light falls on copper and chocolate. The scribbles became the photographers' brief. The result is calm and warm: a white chef's jacket with gold buttons, the face out of frame, hands at the centre, copper pans and glazing racks on dark wood in low-key light. I also worked on Petits Plaisirs, its loyalty programme. As Digital Art Director at DD COM, I was responsible for concept and scribbles; the photography was in other hands.
